Activating the lost arts of mythic pageantry, The Cortège is a participatory theater experience singing to a part of ourselves both ancient & eternal.

Amid a rapidly expiring culture and scarcity of shared meaning, The Cortège serves as a container for collective and individual grief. Via ceremonious procession, The Cortège mourns the fate of the modern era, invites a reckoning with the New Gods of Perplexity, and shepherds souls toward what lies beyond the veil.

Sound

A curated cinematic score featuring original compositions by Boreta, El Búho, and TOKiMONSTA, alongside tracks from artists including Air, Kiasmos, Rival Consoles, A Beautiful Chorus, Andrew Bird, and Slow Meadow, mixed by interactive media studio [namethemachine].

COSTUME

Inspired by medieval pageantry and seasonal rites of passage, The Cortège summons archetypal figures, puppetry, and set-pieces created in collaboration with artists including Orly Anon, Damselfrau, Jonny Cota, Spencer Hansen, and others.

Movement

Led by decorated Japanese battle dancer and choreographer, MiYU (@miyu23_official), and featuring powerhouse street-style dancer Capjay (@capjjay) in the lead role, The Cortège embodies storytelling through physical expression and movement.

SPECTACLE

The Cortège transmutes circuitry into ceremony through robotic performance, drone apparitions (from Nova Sky Studio), integrated automation and simulcast score.

Occurring outdoors at dusk, The Cortège is a three-hour evening anchored by a 60-minute participatory procession that revives the lost arts of mythic pageantry.

The evening begins with an open-air food market and a live musical prelude. As twilight descends, passengers embark on a wordless journey through sound, movement, costume, and spectacle. At night’s end, all are invited to join the procession—toward safe passage and a gathering beyond the veil.

The Cortège draws on the lost art of mythic pageantry to create what is largely absent in Western culture: a shared container for collective grief.

By embodying archetypes instead of characters, the evening offers participants a space to witness, feel, and begin to process what cannot always be named.

Before the procession begins, guests are invited to gather at our open-air food market. As dusk deepens, our live house ensemble weaves a sonic prelude that gently prepares all who attend for the journey ahead.

AFTERLIFE

Following the procession, passengers are welcomed into the Afterlife for tea service and a moment of gentle reintegration. As ever, what lies beyond remains a mystery... This space is held for emergent programming and pop-up ambient sets by visiting artists.
